Who We Are

Black Nurses Ottawa is a non-profit organization uniting Registered Nurses (RNs), Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs), nurse practitioners, nursing students, and allied professionals.

We exist to create a safe, collaborative environment where Black healthcare professionals can build careers without barriers. By fostering mentorship, sharing employment pathways, and elevating our members’ collective voice, BNO transforms lived experiences into actionable advocacy, thereby ensuring our healthcare system reflects and respects the diverse population it serves.

Our Core Philosophy

At Black Nurses Ottawa, we believe that empowering our professionals is the key to achieving true health equity. Our initiatives, advocacy, and community outreach are guided by three foundational principles:

From church pews to a thriving movement for institutional change.

Our Story

Founded in June 2022 by Patricia Ogban to combat the isolation and systemic barriers faced by Black healthcare professionals, Black Nurses Ottawa (BNO) began as a dedicated peer support group. Driven by the need to address widespread disparities, the group officially incorporated as an Ontario non-profit.
